Viva la Fiesta! Santa Barbara’s Old Spanish Days & Flamenco “Rager”!

Fiesta Santa Barbara is underway.  As a dance instructor at Santa Barbara Dance Arts my favorite part of Old Spanish Days is the Flaminco performances by dancers of all ages. Ursula-Lopez-2004

Uber Cool Vintage Mercedes

When John and I got together some years ago, we left a fantastic weekend in Napa Valley, relishing in the memories of good food and good wine on our way back to San Francisco.  On the highway we literally followed a white 1970 Mercedes 280sl into the city over the Golden Gate Bridge.  Its sleek lines set against the golden California hills and then under the looming structure of the Golden Gate, was sheer magic in motoring….

Mercedes 280 SL

I said to John ‘I would love to have one some day’, classic lines, cruising down the highway, just so bloody sexy and timeless.  Not more than 6 months later, we had one, parked in Chicago.  We had it delivered to LA, and within a couple of weeks, the top was stolen….I guess it was in demand!  Flip to this uber hip guy in LA who is restoring old benzes, kind of gets the bug going again to hear a new take on an old classic!

PULSE MIAMI and the AD OASIS at ART BASEL

PULSE MIAMI was one of my favorite as it has a reputation as the leading US Art Fair dedicated solely to contemporary art. Pulse showcases a diverse group of established and emerging galleries. These galleries present a perfect blend of renowned and pioneering contemporary artists. Here are a few of my favs of the day. Evidently I was really into photography. After PULSE MIAMI by buddy Brian Delshad and I checked out the AD OASIS hosted by Architectural Digest and designed by Mark Cunningham.

Art Basel Miami 2012 preview and Vernissage

I attended the Preview and Vernissage events for Art Basel Miami 2012 with by buddy Brian Delshad. We had as much fun previewing art as we did previewing people like Martha Stewart, Vera Wang, and a dozens of g’zillionaires and their handlers and art consultants.  I keep thinking of an excerpt I read from Tom Wolfe’s new novel  Back to Blood  in Vanity Fair  entitled “The Running of the Billionaires”…about this very event.  Brian and I had fun and even capped off the evening at a fabulous party launch party hosted by Dior and feature a new film (to be a permanent installation at the store) by Bruce Weber  entitled, Can I Make the Music Fly? See. Style.com for more. Here are a few of my favorite works and favorite galleries.

Art Deco Art Basel

My nifty Art Deco Hotel is cheap by our standards at $90 / night going up to $250 on weekend nights. It’s in the heart of the historic South Beach Art Deco District. Free happy hour drinks where you can commiserate with hip international hotel guests

about the fact that … THERE IS NO INTERNET! Cheap tho. Worth it?

The Whitelaw Hotel and Hostel…………..OMG! Hostel!! Gregg booked me in hostel! Times are really tough I guess. Well, that explains the internet situation. Bye… from Starbucks.
