Herb Ritts: An Evening at the Annenberg Space for Photography

Gregg and I attended  the 100th IRIS Nights Lecture,  The life and body of work of Herb Ritts, at the Annenberg Space for Photography. David Fahey and Mark McKenna took the stage for the first time to discuss their personal and professional experience with Herb Ritts and his iconic photographs.

Photos From: HerbRitts.com  David Fahey wrote the forward for the new book Herb Ritts: The Golden Hour,  put out by Rizzoli in conjunction with the Herb Ritts Foundation. I liked this article about the book at Life.com.

The current exhibition at the Annenberg Space for Photography  is BEAUTY CULTURE.

The FURminator: Miracle for Cat and Dog Lovers!

Are you always knee deep in pet hair? Do you have to take a lint roller with you everywhere you go? (I personally believe that no outfit is complete without cat hair but I can tell you my boss probably does not agree.)  Well,  rejoice animal lovers!  Behold the FURminator, a miracle pet brush.

One of my friends told me about it,  I knew I had to try it, and let me tell you, it works better than I was expecting. After just 5 minutes of brushing one of my cats I had a Ziplok  bag full of cat hair.  I think my cat even thought there was a new cat in the apartment! The FURminator reduces hair shedding 90% after once a day brushing for one week. Meow!

The FURminator is truly a godsend!

It’s like a spa treatment for your cats!

Getting his daily massage– I mean, brushing.

Here’s the brush after just one swipe! My cats now have the silkiest lightest coats, perfect for summertime! You can purchase the FURminator on their website or on Amazon.  Happy brushing!

And don’t forget, the FURminator works on dogs too!

Best Sunglasses: Are you Rockin’ Your Shades?

What are your favorites Shades? Clearly, on this beautiful sunny day in Venice,  Gregg and I– with our best Euro Buds, Amber and Leo– rocked our Persols.  It was a coincidence that we had fun with.

Admittedly, I’m a bit a of a Sunglasses Wh***(Gregg’s term for me).  But, who cares.  I love my shades but am not always stylin’ the Persol. Chrome Hearts and Gucci are also among my personal favorites.  The best though,  were a pair of Boucheron Aviators. They  were my favorite as I do have a problem:  I seem to have an uncontrolled desire to donate my stylish shades to airline cleaning crews and busboys.

Danile Craig wore Persol 2720S  in Quantum of Solace ….thank you CoolSpotters. If you’re in interested in finding what your favorite movie star is sporting these days, I found this site while poking around. It’s pretty cool. Celebrity Sunglasses Finder, believe it or not!

Chrome Hearts “Hung” model, a favorite of Karl Lagerfeld.  BTW..Here is a Wiki history of Chrome Hearts.  I think it’s interesting.

My personal favorite.  Boucheron Paris  Aviator  (See where I lost mine here)

Oh How Sweet It Is: Agave Nectar

Agave nectar is an interesting juice.  It’s derived from  the agave plant, which is a relative of a cactus  native to Mexico. The nectar is  reduced to a syrup that can be  used as a sugar substitute for just about anything that needs a hint of natural sweetness.

beautiful shot of an agave plant. Look at those colors!

The nectar  has a much lower glycemic index than other sweeteners, such as sugar. A lower glycemic index number means that it does not cause the body’s blood sugar to rise as fast, or as high,  after eating — which makes it suitable for diabetics, dieters and anyone concerned about their sugar intake.

A jimador is a type of Mexican farmer who harvests agave plants, which have been traditionally harvested primarily for the production of mezcal and tequila.

Agave nectar can be found at your local health foods store. It works as a great honey replacement and can be used in baking, as a sweetener and in cocktails.

A fun way to try out agave is by trying new products that use it,  such as OOgave which is a much healthier alternative to mainstream sodas.

A Black Girls Guide to Weight Loss is a very cool blog, yet it has some opposing information to say about this sweet agave in disguise.

Enjoy!

My Favorite Lip Balm. Ever.

The one beauty product  I constantly purchase is lip balm and,  unfortunately, most of them leave me unsatisfied. I seem to have chapped lips all the time and the frustrating part is that I always wear lip balm on and always have it ready to re-apply. I did learn that chapped lips are a sign of dehydration and have been increasing the amount of water I drink, yet I know that’s not enough.

http://kaysens.blogspot.com/

This is why I am so excited to share with you that after many years of researching almost every product, I have finally found the lip balm that works miracles! It’s called Bioderma Atoderm Lip Moisturizer for Dehydrated and Sensitive Lips and it is alllllllllllll it’s cracked up to be! The French have been using it for years and now we can also enjoy its benefits!

You can purchase this product of of Amazon and TRUST ME it is worth the $13!

So what are you waiting for? Let’s all get those soft luscious lips we deserve!

Beauty Secret: Argan Oil

Want to stop signs of aging ASAP? Try this hidden beauty secret that is just gaining popularity in the U.S. It’s called Argan Oil. Known by the Moroccan Berber community as the “Tree of Life,” the Argan tree (Argania spinosa) has supported the people of these arid regions for centuries.

high vitamin E content makes for an amazingly rich moisture for your face and hair. I know many Americans are hesitant to use  facial products with oil (notice how many products purport  to be “oil free” next time you go to buy beauty products) but  Argan Oil is an all natural, grease-free way to improve the texture of your face and hair.

Moroccan women take the Argan nut and press it to collect the precious, pure oil.

Just recently I have been using former model, Josie Maran’s, cosmetic line which completely centers around the benefits of Argan oil.  I absolutely love all of her products– so much that my daily routine consists of nothing but Maran’s products. I start out with the Argan primer mist, followed by the Argan Oil Daily Moisturizer with SPF 40 and to top it off I apply the Argan Matchmaker Serum Foundation (which goes on white but then instantly matches your natural skin tone.)  After these three steps I feel ready to take on the day with my fresh face!  Even better, by the end of the day my face still has that  dewy look that we all love, especially during the summer months.

Natural beauty Josie Maran. Who wouldn’t take beauty advice from this gorgeous girl?!

One last product that I MUST recommend is Moroccan Oil: Oil Treatment for all Hair Types. I will  say that all their hair products are wonderful but if you want to try only one product to start, the oil treatment is my definite recommendation! I pour a dime- sized bit  into the palm of my hand and run it through my wet hair after a shower. Additionally, if your hair is in need of some extra loving, you can use more oil and run it through your dry hair,  sleep with it in,  and simply wash it out the next morning.

All Josie Maran products are available on her website as well as at Sephora.

Morrocan Oil products can be found at most salons, beauty supply stores and on Amazon.
