2011 Food and Wine Classic- Aspen Luxury Event

Eat, drink and mingle with celebs under the sun against a lush green mountain backdrop.  You will think you have died and gone to heaven at the Food & Wine Classic in the Colorado Rockies of Aspen.  Did I mention gourmet food and fine wine?  In previous years, visitors had to purchase a full-weekend pass that topped $1,100. Tickets for this year’s Classic events — held June 18-20 — will be sold à la carte,  making individual tickets more accessible for insider events like the Grand Tasting and the Food & Wine Best New Chef Dinner.

For  Wine Lovers, don’t miss The Classic, as the insiders call it, because it offers a lot of opportunities to sneak a sip from wine cellars’ rarest bottles. If that sounds inviting, make your way to the seminar on France’s preeminent Châteauneuf du Pape and two decades of Dom Pérignon. Or you could tour local winery, Lewis Cellars to try its limited productions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc.

Food Lovers can check out Mario Batali’s demonstration of Ligurian cooking and should’t miss the showdown of all showdowns: the Classic Quickfire, pitting Top Chef Season 6 winner Michael Voltaggio against Top Chef Masters champion Chef Rick Bayless.  Those in awe of celebrity sightings and  hobnob-ings can mingle with the stars on the mountain, track them down in the main tent at the Grand Tasting and watch them go hog wild at the Grand Cochon — a head-to-toe heritage pig competition.

Around Aspen, once you’ve had enough partying, take in the scenery while nursing a drink poolside at The Viceroy atop Snowmass. The next day you can take a hike up the mountain to burn off some of the calories before doing it all again.

Learn how to mix it up like the best of them: learn the power of salt with the charismatic chef José Andrés, or let Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto guide you through “Japanese Knife Techniques.” You can do all this  for less than it costs to enroll in culinary school.
